Roast Profile

The Roast

Medium-dark. pulled deep enough to bring out the bold body and rich crema of a true Cuban-style espresso, but stopped before the rum-barrel notes get muddied. The roast is the canvas. The barrel does the painting.

LightCityMedium-Dark ●French
Medium-dark is the sweet spot for Havana. The sugars have caramelized into deep toffee, the oils are out, and the body is heavy enough to carry the rum barrel's caramel-spice transfer. The result: a bold Cuban-style espresso with a rich, dark crema, toffee and molasses on the palate, caramel and warm spice on the finish.

Brew Guide

How to Brew

Havana was built for espresso. The barrel-aged toffee and rum-spice notes hit hardest under pressure. that's where the crema carries the flavor. Drip works, but espresso is the move.

This is the move. Espresso is how Havana is meant to be experienced. the high pressure pulls out the rum-barrel caramel, the dark toffee crema, and the warm spice finish. Drip dilutes the magic.

Pull Time
1.Dose 18–20g into the portafilter. Level and tamp with ~30 lbs of even pressure. No rocking.
2.Target a 25–30 second pull for a 36–40g yield. If it pulls fast, grind finer. If it stalls, coarser.
3.Havana pulls a thick, dark crema with a caramel-rum aroma. The first sip is toffee. The finish is warm spice.
4.Drink it neat as a Cuban-style cortado, or build it into a flat white. the rum notes hold up beautifully against milk.

Brew Time
1.Fill bottom chamber with hot water just below the safety valve. Pre-heated water keeps the coffee from burning.
2.Pack the basket with fine-ground Havana. level it, don't tamp. Assemble and place on medium heat.
3.When you hear the first gurgle, pull it off the heat. Stir the top chamber to even out the extraction.
4.Moka pot is the closest thing to espresso without a machine, and it's how this coffee is brewed across the Caribbean.

Brew Time
1.Drip works, but it's a softer expression. Use 1g of coffee per 15g water. slightly stronger than usual to keep the rum notes forward.
2.Set water temperature to 200–205°F. Just off boil. Never at a rolling boil.
3.Use a clean filter. Rinse paper filters first to remove paper taste before brewing.
4.For the full barrel-aged experience, brew espresso instead. Drip is fine. but you're missing the pressure-driven rum aromatics.
Coarse

Brew Time
1.Add coarse ground coffee. Think sea salt texture. Too fine and the plunger sticks, the cup is muddy.
2.Pour all your water at once. Stir gently, break the crust, place the lid on with plunger pulled up.
3.Steep exactly 4 minutes. Press slow. 20–30 seconds. Slow pressure = less bitterness.
4.French press unlocks Havana's full body and oak-molasses depth. The barrel notes stay heavy in the cup.

Water Temp

Steep Time
1.Use 1g coffee per 8g cold filtered water. Combine in a mason jar or dedicated cold brew maker.
2.Stir, cover, refrigerate 18–24 hours. Cold extraction emphasizes Havana's caramel sweetness over the spice.
3.Strain through a paper filter or cheesecloth. This is your concentrate. dilute 1:1 with water or milk before serving.
4.Cold brew Havana tastes like liquid caramel rum. naturally smooth, no bitterness, all sweetness.

Like nothing I've ever tasted in a cup.

I've been a barrel-aged whiskey guy for years and was skeptical that the same magic could translate to coffee. It does. Pulled this as a double shot and the rum-toffee aroma hit before the cup even reached my lips. Caramel and warm spice through the whole sip. Different in the best way.

Cortado made with this is unreal.

Pulled 18g into 36g, steamed oat milk to silk. The barrel notes hold up perfectly against the milk. you can still taste the caramel and oak underneath. I've been making myself one every morning. My wife is jealous I don't share.

"I love a great espresso, and I love a great rum. Most "barrel-aged" coffees on the shelf are just sprayed with synthetic flavoring, propylene glycol, artificial sweeteners, the works. So we did it the real way: USDA Organic Cuba Mia espresso beans soaked in actual Havana Club rum barrels, then small-batch roasted. No additives. No shortcuts. Questions

The FAQ

Is this actually barrel-aged?

Yes. Real Havana Club rum barrels. not flavorings, not extracts, not "natural flavor." Whole green Cuba Mia espresso beans go into authentic rum-soaked oak barrels and rest there until the wood gives up its caramel, oak, and warm spice naturally. Then they're roasted. This is the world's first USDA Certified Organic barrel-aged coffee.

Does it actually taste like rum?

It tastes like the *flavor* of rum without the alcohol. The caramel sweetness and warm spice transfer beautifully through the wood, but the alcohol burns off in roasting. So you get the toffee, the caramel, the oak, and the warm Caribbean spice. without any actual alcohol content. It's coffee. It's just coffee that spent serious time in a rum barrel.

Is there any actual alcohol in this?

No. Any residual alcohol from the barrel aging is fully evaporated during the roasting process. Havana is a non-alcoholic coffee. the rum-barrel notes come from the wood, not active alcohol content.

Should I brew this as drip or espresso?

Espresso. Always. The barrel-aged toffee and warm spice notes hit hardest under pressure. that's where the crema carries the rum-coffee flavor straight to your nose before it hits your tongue. Moka pot is a strong second option. Drip and French press both work fine, but espresso is what this coffee was built for.

Is it actually USDA Organic?

USDA Certified Organic. every step of the way. The Cuba Mia base bean is certified organic, the barrel-aging process meets the standards, and the final product is certified. We're not just calling ourselves "organic", we're verified. No pesticides, no synthetic fertilizers, no BS.

How fresh is it when it arrives?

Here's the actual workflow: small batches roasted at our USDA Organic-certified partner facility, then sealed in oxygen-barrier bulk bags straight off the drum. Those bulk bags ship to our packhouse and stay sealed until orders come in. The day your order ships, we open the bulk seal, weigh, grind (if you chose ground), hand-fill into a foil-lined pouch with a one-way degassing valve, and seal it closed. Your bag was filled the day it shipped, never pre-bagged, never sitting on a shelf. You'll notice the bloom when you brew. Fresh coffee blooms. Stale coffee doesn't.

How does the subscription work?

You pick your delivery frequency. every 2 or 4 weeks. You save 15% on every order. Free shipping always. You can skip, pause, swap products, or cancel from your account portal. no hoops, no customer service required. Most pack members end up on every 4 weeks.
