Let’s be honest about Sunday night for a second.
You had a whole plan. This is the week. New you. Meal prep, gym at 6am, no doomscrolling, drink water like it’s a full-time job. You even laid your gym clothes out on the chair like a responsible adult.
Then Monday’s alarm goes off and that responsible adult is nowhere to be found. You hit snooze. Twice. Okay, four times, but who’s counting (you are, you’re counting). The gym clothes just sit there on the chair, judging you. And by noon you’ve told yourself the sacred lie of our people: “I’ll just start next Monday.”
I’ve done it more times than I’d like to admit.
Here’s the thing nobody says out loud though: your week doesn’t fall apart on Wednesday. It falls apart in that first hour Monday, before the world even wakes up, in the tiny gap between what you said you’d do and what you actually did.
Monday is a tell. And it’s not about being perfect (perfect is a scam anyway). It’s about the first move. One thing. Water before the phone. A walk before the excuses. The workout you already had a full legal argument prepared to skip. It doesn’t have to be impressive. It just has to be first, because the first domino knocks over the rest.
Discipline isn’t a feeling you wait around for. Motivation is a Tuesday luxury. Discipline is just showing up on the day you’d rather do absolutely nothing, and doing the one thing anyway. That’s the whole secret the $47 courses won’t sell you.
So today, don’t fix your entire life. Just pick one move and do it before the day picks you. Then, wild idea, do it again tomorrow.
That’s how a week gets built. That’s how a life gets built. One unremarkable, slightly annoying Monday at a time.
Now go. Your gym clothes are still on the chair. They’ve suffered enough.
TRUTH.
