Questions
The FAQ
Is this actually barrel-aged?
Yes. Real Solera Club rum barrels. not flavorings, not extracts, not "natural flavor." Whole green Cuba Mia espresso beans go into authentic rum-soaked oak barrels and rest there until the wood gives up its caramel, oak, and warm spice naturally. Then they're roasted. This is the world's first USDA Certified Organic barrel-aged coffee.
Does it actually taste like rum?
It tastes like the *flavor* of rum without the alcohol. The caramel sweetness and warm spice transfer beautifully through the wood, but the alcohol burns off in roasting. So you get the toffee, the caramel, the oak, and the warm Caribbean spice. without any actual alcohol content. It's coffee. It's just coffee that spent serious time in a rum barrel.
Is there any actual alcohol in this?
No. Any residual alcohol from the barrel aging is fully evaporated during the roasting process. Solera is a non-alcoholic coffee. the rum-barrel notes come from the wood, not active alcohol content.
Should I brew this as drip or espresso?
Espresso. Always. The barrel-aged toffee and warm spice notes hit hardest under pressure. that's where the crema carries the rum-coffee flavor straight to your nose before it hits your tongue. Moka pot is a strong second option. Drip and French press both work fine, but espresso is what this coffee was built for.
Is it actually USDA Organic?
USDA Certified Organic. every step of the way. The Cuba Mia base bean is certified organic, the barrel-aging process meets the standards, and the final product is certified. We're not just calling ourselves "organic", we're verified. No pesticides, no synthetic fertilizers, no BS.
How fresh is it when it arrives?
Small-batch roasted, ground (if you chose ground), and sealed into oxygen-barrier foil pouches with a one-way degassing valve. all at the same USDA Organic-certified facility. The pouch is never broken between roast and seal, so the coffee never sees ambient air until you do. We fulfill direct from our packhouse. You'll notice the bloom when you brew. Fresh coffee blooms. Stale coffee doesn't.
